Is Your Knowledge Making You Better?

Welcome. What if someone handed you a plan for a perfect day? Not perfect in the sense of nothing going wrong, but perfect in the sense that every hour, from the moment you open your eyes until you close them again, brings you closer to Allah.
Around nine hundred years ago, one of the most brilliant minds in Islamic history wrote exactly that. His name was Abu Hamid al-Ghazali. He had been a famous professor in Baghdad, then left everything to purify his heart, and later wrote his great work, Ihya Ulum al-Din.
But he also wrote a short book for beginners. He called it Bidayat al-Hidayah, The Beginning of Guidance.
He opens it with a warning. O student, if you are seeking knowledge to compete with others, to show off, or to gather wealth and fame, then you are working to destroy your religion.
But if your intention is to be guided, then rejoice, for the angels lower their wings for you.
And how do you know which you are? He says: guidance has a beginning and an end. The end is hidden. But the beginning is clear. It is to live the day the way Allah loves.
It is reported that whoever increases in knowledge, but not in guidance, only grows further from Allah. So let us begin, not with theory, but with your day.
