A Small Book About a Great Woman
🎧 Listen to this chapter (3 min)
Welcome. Some books are long, heavy, and full of debates. And some books are small, like a single flower pressed between the pages of history.
This is one of the small ones. More than a thousand years ago, in Baghdad, a scholar named Ibn Shahin gathered what he had heard about one woman. Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ.
Ibn Shahin was a careful collector. He wrote hundreds of works, and people said he wrote what no one else had written. But like many collectors of his time, he gathered first, and left the sorting to those who came after.
So in the modern edition, a scholar of hadith named al-Huwayni went through every single report. He marked which were authentic, which were weak, and which should never have been attributed to the Prophet ﷺ at all.
In this summary, we will follow his care. The words we say the Prophet ﷺ spoke are the ones the scholars accepted. When a story is weaker, we will tell you, it is reported.
And what remains is more than enough to fill the heart. Because the life of Fatimah is a story of love, of poverty, of patience, and of a bond between a father and a daughter that even death could not break.
