Every Affair Is Good

Welcome. This is Patience and Your Choices, drawn from two short treatises by the great scholar of Damascus, Ibn Taymiyyah.
He begins with a remarkable claim. Allah, he says, has made every situation of the believer good for him. Whatever happens to him, pleasant or painful, he is always in a blessing from his Lord.
Every decree, he says, becomes a kind of trade in which the believer profits. A road by which he reaches Allah.
And he quotes the Prophet ﷺ. How wonderful is the affair of the believer. All of it is good for him. If something pleasing happens, he is grateful, and that is good for him. If something harmful happens, he is patient, and that is good for him.
One of the early Muslims said, faith is two halves. Half patience, and half gratitude. And Allah speaks of signs for everyone who is very patient, and very grateful.
So in this book, Ibn Taymiyyah focuses on patience. What it is. Its kinds. And, above all, how to find it when people hurt us.
Because patience, in the end, is not something that happens to us. It is a choice.
