Welcome. A thousand years ago, at the far western edge of the Muslim world, in Cordoba, the great city of al-Andalus, lived one of the most respected scholars in the history of Islam.
His name was Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr. He was a master of hadith, known across the Muslim world as the hadith scholar of the West. His books on the Companions and on the Muwatta of Imam Malik are still studied today.
He had never seen Makkah or Madinah. He lived thousands of miles away. And yet, he spent his life studying every detail of the Prophet’s life and the people around him.
Among his works is a clear and beautiful summary of the Prophet’s life and campaigns. He called it al-Durar. The Pearls.
What makes it special is that it is full of people. Not just events, but the Companions who lived them. Their words. Their courage. Their tears.
In this summary, we will travel the road of the Prophet’s life with Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr, and listen to the voices of those who walked beside him.
