Why Love the Companions?

Welcome. Every great teacher is known by his students. And the greatest teacher who ever lived left behind the greatest students.

They were merchants and shepherds, freed slaves and tribal chiefs, young men and old women. They believed in him when it was dangerous to believe. They left their homes for him. They carried his words to the ends of the earth.

More than a thousand years ago, a great scholar of hadith named al-Nasa’i, from the town of Nasa in Khurasan, gathered what the Prophet ﷺ himself said about these Companions. He was the author of one of the six major collections of hadith. And this little book was his gift of love to the people who stood beside the Prophet ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ said, the best of people are my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them.

And he said, do not insult my Companions. If one of you spent gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would not reach a handful of what they gave, or even half of it.
