Sa’d reported that the Prophet said, how wonderful is the Muslim. When good comes to him, he praises Allah and is grateful. When a calamity strikes him, he hopes for reward and is patient. The Muslim is rewarded in everything, even in the morsel of food he lifts to his wife’s mouth.

Anas reported that the Prophet visited a young man who was close to death. He asked, how do you find yourself? The young man said, I am hoping in Allah, and I fear my sins.

The Prophet said, these two never come together in a servant’s heart at a moment like this, except that Allah gives him what he hopes for, and keeps him safe from what he fears.

So what do we take from this book?

Illness is real, and pain is real. Seek treatment, and ask Allah for health. But when sickness comes, know that it is not wasted. Your sins fall like leaves. Your good deeds keep being written. Your du’a is heard. And every visit, every kind word, every cool cloth on a fevered forehead, is surrounded by mercy.

May Allah heal every sick listener, and comfort every heart that cares for them.
