Does Trust Change Anything?

Welcome. This is one of the shortest books in our library, but it answers a question many of us carry quietly.
When I trust in Allah, does it actually change anything? Or would the same things happen anyway?
The author is Ibn Taymiyyah, the great scholar of Damascus, who lived seven hundred years ago. In his time, some people who wrote about the heart had reached a surprising conclusion. Trust in Allah, they said, brings no benefit, and removes no harm. Whatever was written would happen with trust or without it. Trust was simply an act of worship, rewarded in the next life, like throwing pebbles at the Jamarat.
Some said the same about supplication. It changes nothing, they said. It is only a sign.
Ibn Taymiyyah disagrees, firmly. The early Muslims, the great imams, and most scholars, he says, held that Allah has made causes in this world. And that the one who truly relies on Him receives benefit, and is protected from harm, in a way that others are not.
In this short treatise, he sets out to prove it, verse by verse, from the Qur'an.
So let us follow him.
