Your Clothing in Jannah

Faith, like clothing, can wear down over time. The Prophet(PBUH)compared this in a tradition, advising to pray for renewal of faith in the heart. “Surely faith wears out in your heart in the same manner that a garment does, so ask Allah to renew the faith in your hearts.” Long-term believers may find their faith weakened over time, similar to a garment wearing out. To maintain strong faith, they should revisit religious teachings. In Paradise, believers wear the finest clothes, as indicated by Hadiths prohibiting silk and gold in this world but allowing them in the Hereafter. Abstaining from worldly pleasures now ensures enjoyment of them later.“…and [He will] reward them for their perseverance with a Garden and [garments of] silk.”(al insan 12)Just a few verses later in the same chapter, we find Allah(SWT)state: “The virtuous will be in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade, and adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.”(al insan 21)In his commentary, Imam Ibn al-Qayyim explains that the green garments mentioned in the verse are not meant for covering the body but symbolise the high status of the believer in Paradise.

They complement the inner purification achieved through the blessed rivers. These garments and drinks increase both inner and outer beauty proportionally, without excess or deficiency. As the Qur’an openly mentions, the believers will be further decorated with golden bracelets, precious jewels, and stones: “They will enter the Gardens of Eternity, where they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their clothing will be silk.”(Fatir 33)In Paradise, believers will have a jeweller continuously shaping their gems and bracelets perfectly. This process is ongoing now. According to Kaʿb al-Aḥbar, an Angel is assigned to this duty until Judgment Day. He mentioned that just one bangle from Paradise would outshine the Sun if seen in our world.

Many people in this world wear gold, unaware it holds no value in the next life. A tiny amount of gold in Paradise surpasses all worldly riches. The Prophet(PBUH)confirmed this, saying even a small part of Paradise would illuminate the entire universe. Bracelets worn by people in Paradise would outshine the Sun. Another Hadith mentions they will wear bracelets of gold and silver, pearl and ruby garlands(decorative wreath), and crowns fit for kings. In Paradise, believers’ crowns will vary based on their deeds. The greatest crown will be given to those who memorized the Qur’an and their parents, who will receive special robes of immense worth. The martyrs will also be honoured with a beautiful crown, described as having rubies more precious than the entire world and everything in it.

In Paradise, believers will receive golden combs and luxurious perfumes to enhance their beauty and fragrance. To earn these rewards, one must uphold moral standards, protect fellow believers, and care for spouses, resembling garments that provide comfort and proper covering. Such behaviour earns the priceless garments of Paradise.(It will be said to the believers)“Enter (Jannah) in peace and security.”( AL-ḤIJR, 46)
