After One Dies

Imagine your good deeds as your own children you have taken care of and raised with the hope of benefiting from them in the afterlife, just like the way parents rely on their children and consider them as their support system in their old age. So, we should focus on the quality and number of good deeds that we do in this life by keeping this in mind as to how they will affect us in the afterlife.

In his teachings, The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon Him) explained that disbelievers will face a challenging nightmare in the grave, enduring torment from a fearsome dragon composed of seventy serpents with seven heads until the day of resurrection. On the other hand, believers will have their virtuous actions serving as a shield during this period. Prior to the arrival of the angels for judgment, these acts of goodness will appear as guardian beings to watch over the departed soul.

When a believer feels isolated, their prayers can protect them from harm. The grave will then become spacious beyond our imaginations, filled with pleasures that await us in Jannah. A divine being, representing the good deeds we’ve done, will comfort the departed soul with promises of rewards to come.

Lucky are those who are ensured protection from punishment in the afterlife, such as martyrs and those who pass away on virtuous days. However, there are strict consequences for those who are engaged in sinful activities like usury, adultery, slander, or neglect of ritual purity. Our actions, whether good or bad, will affect us in the grave and on Judgment Day. We should have a firm belief that our actions are the reason for the things, either good or bad, that we face in Dunya or Akhirah.

The Hadith emphasises that when a believer passes away, they can see their final destination, either Paradise or Hell, through a spiritual window. This can clearly give them a preview of where they have to stay forever and what they deserve for their actions performed in this world. This knowledge is satisfying for the believers as their good deeds are confirmed, and they eagerly anticipate the rewards awaiting them in Paradise while wearing heavenly attire.
