A Day for the Women

🎧 Listen to this chapter (2 min)

Welcome. This is a small book with a gentle purpose. To comfort mothers and fathers who have lost a child.

Its author is Ibn Rajab, a scholar of Damascus who lived more than six hundred years ago. And he begins with a scene from Madinah.

The women came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, the men take up all your time. Give us a day of our own. So he promised them a day, and he kept his promise. He came to them, taught them, and advised them.

And among the good news he gave them was this. Any woman among you who sends ahead three of her children, they will be a screen for her from the Fire.

A woman asked, and two? He said, and two.

Ibn Rajab notes how carefully the Prophet ﷺ made sure the women heard his teaching. On the day of Eid, after his sermon, he walked over to them with Bilal to remind them too. And on that special day, part of the good news he gave them was comfort for a mother's grief.
